Looking back at previous blogs I realised I left anyone who happened to be reading on a cliffhanger... I apologise. However, ray has now kindly filled you all in on what happened in his comment on the post below so thank you ray...

Anyway, on to the new school year. If I said in my last post that that was one of the most stressful weeks I'd had then last week comes a very close second. I wont say too much about it but, take heed of my words children, procrastinating is baaaad. Put simply, I had a piece of English and Music homework that I left right to the last minute and that had a 'domino effect' on all other homeworks that came my way that week. I don't work quickly as it is, so these piles of work led to many a late night and skipped lunch- frightening stuff...

Otherwise, school has gone ok so far in this first term... Once again, we have a very interesting batch of teachers (including some of last year's favourites) and I hope they will provide us with as much entertainment as last year's lot. While we have lost Burchy, Gibby Bear and miss 'uh-huh' lowe (recently revealed as Michal :-o), they have been replaced by 'the great dr warnes', the 'main man' (who moves ever so gracefully through the corridors...) and, our beloved new form teacher, mr 'history' who seems to enjoy calling me "SOMERS!" whilst fixing his eeeeevil eye upon me. I daresay I will have more to report on teachers in future posts as they do get more and more interesting and entertaining every year!

I have no lunch to report on today, as I spent the day fasting with raiyan and daniel at raiyan's house (HAHA raiyan, we made it!!!). However, for tea I had an authentic bengali meal (and apple pie...) to break the fast with. It was very delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you!

Can't think of anything else to say for now... Happy October everyone! :-D

edit: some names have been changed to protect identities

Ma semaine

It's finally the weekend! I've just had a long and tiring week of school, going through some of the most stressful days of my life so far (mind you, there's still next week to reckon with, and the many years of exams coming up...)

On Monday I had my Grade 5 clarinet exam, which I turned up for 20 minutes early and came out 20 minutes late... Apparently, the examiner had been caught in traffic leaving me sitting alone in the waiting room for a good half-hour getting more and more nervous and tense every minute. When the time finally came, I was given barely a minute in the warm-up room before I was whisked off into the exam room to perform. It didn't go too badly but still, I could've done without the apprehension beforehand.

Of course, me being the lucky person I am, I arrived back at school 20 minutes into the French Listening exam I was supposed to be doing. It's pretty awkward trying to slip in to a silent French exam without causing distraction, particularly if the whole class is facing the door...
"You can do it tomorrow lunchtime" my French teacher mouths silently. At least, that's what I thought she said...
As it turned out, when I went looking for her the following lunchtime, she wasn't actually there... After standing around for half an hour or so, wasting valuable lunch-break time, she finally appeared looking at me at first with confusion, and then sudden realisation. Apparently I was going to have to do the listening exam the next day instead. Hmmm...

There are days in your school life that will make you stand out in your class for a few days, almost like you're famous. It might be because you've smashed another person's beloved magnets (this actually happened) or you've finally returned to school exhausted after a prolonged disappearance which nobody knew anything about (this also happened...) It's usually the bad things that cause you to stand out like this and I'd say that Wednesday was probably my 'standing-out' day (though it thankfully didn't last long).

Wednesday was the day when I was due to have my listening exam at lunch. However, it was also the day we had a chemistry test, a russian listening exam and the dreaded french orals. These were the French orals that we'd only had a few weeks to prepare for and I wasn't feeling as confident as I usually feel about these exams. I'd managed to come up with a bunch of complicated answers to the incredibly annoying questions (tu aimes faire les courses? non.) in my head but was having trouble formulating them in my mouth (and in my memory). However, come period three, I'd forgotten all about the oral and was concentrating on my Russian listening exam. Lunchtime came, but I had to spend the whole time doing the fudging French listening which left me feeling hungry but with no time to have lunch. So, I skipped lunch that day.

This is getting way too long and I have to go for dinner. I'll finish this some other time. It's nothing the majority of you haven't heard anyway. Congrats if you actually read it. Looking at it now, I realise it's something most people will never read. Ah well...to be continued...

...

A few things have happened over the last few days...
Yesterday we went on a geography trip which was OK, although it was mainly made up of 'coach trip'. I didn't learn that much about geography but I did find out what happens when the whole contents of a bottle of ice tea leak out into your bag (result: several saturated geography books)
I also managed to find out how embarrassing your friends can be if they get bored enough.

As for today, usual stuff... nothing happened. My Russian teacher has given me the responsibility of making a poster advertising 'Rooski cloob' i.e. Russian Club. The problem is, there isn't much to advertise about it except 'Play Monopoly in Russian!!!!'
The only reason I'm going is because I need to get more clubs on my report what with ARCO finished (hooray!) I'm starting to regret my volunteering. The way the teacher's face lit up at the prospect of restarting Russian club means she's probably going to burst into tears if I back out now... you know what I mean...

At least db has said he'll try it out. Thankyou!! I'm very grateful, especially seeing as he doesn't even do Russian! Now it won't just be me, Kit and Keir (not that there's anything wrong with them, of course.......) Just shows what good, true friends will do for each other. Does that need repeating, ray? (You don't have to come if you don't want to dan...)

Speaking of ray, he was seen fraternising with 'that crew' this lunchtime! Playing football! In his jersey (new word from gibbon)! Before we know it, he'll be using keelerisms and throwing cutlery at the ceiling!!!

Back to school

We went back to school today! They were very good although I wasn't feeling very hungry at the time because I'd already stuffed myself with (too many) chocolate raisins. The lunch was accompanied by a variety of noises as db and ray decided it would be a good idea to have a competition to see who could drink their fizzy coke the fastest in one gulp. Needless to say, the results were very loud and I felt like I was surrounded by Kits (apologies to Kit if he ever reads this though he should really take it as a compliment...)
What else is there to say? Some will hate me for doing this but I think the end of year exams are still important. It might not affect our entire future but it serves as good practice for when the time comes so yeah, I'm going to try and work hard this year (wow, I sound like I'm writing a speech, i'll be expecting applause at the end of this :-))

I watched the Eurovision Song Contest yesterday. As always, some of the songs were pretty rubbishy and the voting was even rubbishy-er. I don't know how many of my friends watch Eurovision but for the record my favourites last night were Croatia and Ukraine. They weren't great but they were a lot of fun and I guess I like Eastern music... The winners, Finland, were an amazing (word of the evening according to Terry Wogan) visual spectacle but the song wasn't really my type, and the voice was annoying. The UK's entry was a bit dodgy. The song started nicely but the bland rapping brought it down. Overall, the contest was OK...

Hmmm lunch... noodles... not much else to say really...
Looking forward to going to db's on Wednesday!

Mudge

Sooooo I was about to blog at lunch when that I.T. guy (whatshisnameagain?) comes in and busts his chunky moves! Basically, he said I was doing nothing and logged me off and told me to get out! Of course, he didn't notice Mr. 'always-innocent' db who was doing exactly the same thing (though a bit more discreetly, that probably made all the difference...)

Anyway, we got back results from various pieces of work today, and I was fairly pleased with most of them. 25/30 for a history presentation and an A for that geography exam. :-) We also had a 1500m run (argh!) for which I came 18th (out of 30 or so) with a time of 7:20, I think...
Also, when I got home I discovered I'd got one of those 'congratulations on your report' thingies from the high master. Of course, this was for the lent report which we received several months ago, so he was kinda late with the congratulations... Hmmm...

Lunch was a bit of a surprise. I forgot to mention in my last blog that during the interval of the concert, we could go to the dining hall for 'seasonal refreshments' (peanuts and crisps...). But the highlight of this was (drumroll) a table laid with glasses of the most delicious fruit punch!! It was strangely addictive (not alcoholic apparently) and a fellow classmate and I managed to get through about half the glasses there...
Anyway, imagine my delight when, for lunch today, instead of the usual boring blackcurrant stuff, the drink dispenser things were filled with punch!! I pretty much managed to drench my food (chinese chicken) but it was worth it because the result was two brimming cups of punch! It was also good for giving me 'hyper-energy' for the 1500m run! :-D

By the way ray and db, I was talking to you before about perhaps meeting up over the holiday to do something (though I wasn't convinced you were all listening...)
Any thoughts on this?

Quick blog...

I just got back from the school concert, which sounded surprisingly good (even the first-year brass ensemble's rendition of James Bond). It is now pretty late but I felt I should probably write a blog as I failed to do so at lunch...

Thankyou as always for your comments... I think it probably might be better to refer to me as ntms now. While 'not too much sugar' might be a bit long-winded, I feel that 'sugar' sounds endearing but a bit feminine. :-) Mind you, you can all feel free to call me whatever you like.

Nothing really note-worthy at school today, other than the fact that we did NOTHING in history, and the 'stupid evil b...' gave us all oral!! :-D

Hmmm... you might think...

Variety

A lot of stuff has happened since my last blog (even if it was just yesterday) and I feel like writing it down cos I have a lot of time on my hands :-)

I have continued being a sheep (according to some teachers, being a sheep leads to stupidity which leads to fatality...) and have updated various thingummies on my blog. I now have a 24-hour analog clock (you'd better believe it), a happy little profile thing and I gave the whole blog a new name because I am no longer seriously bored and it fits with my name. I'm beginning to familiarise myself with all those little buttons you can fiddle with on the main blogger page :-D

This morning I was in a flustery panic because I, being the disorganised and forgetful person I am, lost the geography mark scheme project I had been working on for the last two weeks or so, due in for Period 1 today. I convinced myself that I could rewrite the whole thing on the bus and during the 15 minute period when we usually have a form period. Of course, today had to be the special day when the authority figures decide to change things around and cram us into the hall for a "sobering-thought-provoking" assembly on stupidity and death >:-(
Thankfully, my geography teacher is a kind and understanding person, and gave me until the end of lunch to finish the new mark-scheme.
As always, I over-estimated my abilities, and found myself distracted by certain things (namely ray and lunch). By 2.10 I still had an 8-mark question to complete, and this wasn't helped by the fact that the gibbon was breathing down my neck as I did it, pestering me about the Russian for fire (I honestly don't care). I finally got it finished by 2.20 (10 minutes later than promised. Oops).
I know this proves what you all thought about me being slow, but there are valuable lessons to be learned from this event.

Keep an eye on all of your work (or two)

Do not have confidence in yourself (look what happened to me!)

If you try to do something, the authority figures will always screw you over

Do not give in to the temptations of lunch

Do not get into conversations about fire with the gibbon

Scheme is pronounced 'skeem'! Not 'sheem'!!! (I dunno where he got that from)

Dr Burch is always right (or maybe not)

OK, I still have more to say...

Lunch just gets worse everyday. Today I had a very bland chicken fillet with potatoes (which I threw to the dog... I mean Kit). However, the alternative was a pale sausage floating in brine!! BLEURGHHH!! Shame on you people who ate those lifeless things for lunch (you know who you are!). At least they bothered with the custard today...

Also, (yes I have more!) I received the results from my Grade 5 piano exam today. I got a pass, which is a tad disappointing cos I reckon I could have got a bit better. I kinda messed up the exam due to nerves. Oh well. I've got my clarinet Grade 5 coming up soon too!

I would like to conclude this expanse of waffling and verbosities by saying that Miss 'Uh-huh!' Lowe is going all out with her pen colour varieties. Her favourite pen was blue today!

Burchism of the day:

'The decomposing composers

There's less of them everyday

You can go and see John Lennon

But there isn't much left of him to play'

or something along those lines

Repeated 5 times throughout the lesson= not funny...

I've had this blog for one week now, and I have overtaken ray in the number of bloggages! The lunch staff have serious hearing problems! How on earth did they hear my request for 'corn' as a request for 'chips. Grr... Those idle so-and-sos. Also, I don't see what's wrong with providing custard with cornflake pie. It tasted dry and horrible without it... I missed today's custard and it's all the fault of those lunchpeople. This means war! (actually, war is wrong. don't do it, kids!)

Anyway, everyone was a little bit hyper today and our English lesson reflected this. I won't post anymore snippets but certain people were told to copy out certain poems... We enjoyed the sliced bread though! :-)

We performed my Sonata in music- v. embarrassing. Especially when the head of music came in to 'judge' it. It sounded good though!

I'm being bothered by other people to get a move on and finish. Impatient people who cannot type as fast as I!! Mwahahaha. Yes. (seriously)

Maybe this will give you some idea about what our English lessons are like...

In other news, the fire alarm went off today, ironically due to the fact the regular bell wasn't working all morning... Of course, after numerous fire drills, everyone was very well organised (NOT). The gibbon himself was looking particularly shifty with a large black umbrella (perhaps concealing a weapon? [omg! jfk reference!]). ...I will leave it here for today as it is time to go to registration. I will add to this at home... Anyway, the fire was a hoax and I had spent 20 minutes during lunch outside in the pouring rain for no reason. Curse you John Kennedy! (whatever involvement he had)

Lunch was 'casserole du poulet sans fourchette'. In other words, chicken casserole without a fudging fork!!!!! I don't know why the lunch staff aren't competent enough to ensure there is a plentiful supply of forks in both (yes, there were two!) trays. At least I had the intuition to pick up a spoon whilst passing the dessert counter while other people thought they would make do with just a knife! (not mentioning any names, db...)

I'm sure today will be remembered as one of the most controversial schooldays in history...
Tomorrow: The arrest and murder of Lee Harvey Gibbon (I wouldn't be surprised)

-not too much sugar @ home

Sunday!

Typical uneventful weekend, mainly spent trying to finish off this book for English (read 60 pages or so over the weekend! Plus the 40 pages you didn't read for the last homework...) We have had five days reading this book and he expects us to have finished by tomorrow. I don't have a clue what's going through our teachers' heads, probably all this hype about exams. They're either going on about revision or trying to cram a load of stuff into us over these last weeks (oh thankyou soooo much handyman for giving us FIVE text booklets in one lesson that we were supposed to receive throughout the year...) And if they're not doing that, they're casually telling us about what EXACTLY will be on the exam, or promising revision sheets "based" on what's on it. Not that I really resent this, I've just got to remember to revise Dresden and 'the outbreak of war' for history, and I'm pretty much done for that exam! :-D

Anyway, continuing my theme of "lunches", I had pasta salad today. Not particularly exciting but I wasn't feeling all that hungry anyway. Besides, you can't go wrong with pasta salad, especially with tuna...

Thankyou for your various comments, even if I do not know half of you :-)

Raining...

I'm at school and it is raining... what fun!
Today they were advertising 'Stir-fried rice savoury' for dinner, which makes you think what the other possibilities could be... Our school lunches must have a direct effect on the UK's chicken population. A lot of chickens were brutally slaughtered to provide today's schoolchildren with the nutrition(!) they need. They taste good though.

Despite what I previously said, I had sausage rolls today, with potatoes and gravy (soooo healthy...) The main reason for this was because I was in a bit of a rush for ARCO (A really crap orchestra) after having spent the first part of lunch dodging various books (mainly 'Animal Farm'). Of course, even after arriving 10 minutes late, I discovered that my favourite orchestra had not even started tuning, as is typical of ARCO on the days we even bother tuning. Finally, 15 minutes or so late, I enjoyed a non-stop session of puffing down a clarinet in the boiling conditions of M1, which is never good for an asthmatic (even though I'm not asthmatic). In true ARCO fashion, the two trumpets had not turned up and the conductor ended up singing their parts herself whilst we were playing so, all in all, it was a joke (as it always is). At least it will be all over after the concert (which is next week!!!)

The reason this message-thing is so long is because it is mainly a diversion from the geography I'm supposed to be doing.
